BOB
Dear Bob,
Tomorrow is the test and I hope I will be doing a good job with it because I have been actually studying harder and harder each day because I want to pass applied math very much and I want to increase my mark. These past 2 weeks we studied about financing a car, computers, mortgages, and making a net worth statement which I really didn't get to learn much about the things I have missed because of the Music trip and my Folk Dance Camp so I'm a bit scared for the test. In the future we're going to have to do all of this to survive and to calculate everything to be able to not be overcharged with things so we save up money and have it a teensy bit easier in life which is why we learnt in math about if we should Lease or buy a Car or Computer or to Rent or Buy a house. One thing I really disliked in this unit is calculating Mortgages I still don't quite understand how to do it properly such as your property after 1, 2, 5, or 10 years. Which is why I shall study and give it my all tonight and tommorow morning to understand how to do the questions that were given to us since day 1 of the Personal Finance Unit. Remember the formulas given to us such as the GDSR, PV of Loan, Equity of House, and Debt/Equity ratio. I hope that's all the formulas given =s maybe something about Net Worth = Assets - Liabilities. Well back to the studying and good luck to all my fellow classmates or to anyone out there who have a quiz, test, or exam to do tommorow^^. David-san signing out(:

BOB
Hey everybody ! Test is tommorow! At the moment I'm studying as much as I can to do awesome at this test because I really want to pass this course. The unit is pretty easy except for the wording of course *sweat* I have trouble understanding the wording of the questions for this unit >< But I think once I get it it's gonna be a bit smoother on the road to answer the questions.
Well for this unit I learnt how to properly use the protractor once again *laughs at self* I had forgotten how to actually properly use one=S but, luckily I slowly remembered how to and I've been doing alright for the questions. Good luck on the test tommorow guys going back to studying!

Hey guys the scribe post for today was me and well I will be happy to say that our "Vector Unit" is finished! Which will lead us to our "Personal Finance Unit" I'm assuming. The pre-test is tommorow I hope all of us will do well for the both the pre-test and the real test. I'm still not that confident with the vector unit but, I'm pretty confident of this question which I answered in the homewor
k given just a day ago.
First Step: You are given an angle of 150 degrees and a magnitude of 550mph. Draw a Cartesian plane and then use a protractor to measure the angle of 150 degrees and draw a line for the first line.
Second Step: With the 2nd angle and magnitude given draw the line which is a bearing of 80 degrees and a magnitude of 175mph.
Third Step: Draw the Resultant vector by drawing a line from the tail of the arrow to the tip.
Fourth Step: Find the angles and sides you have and see what formula to use which in this case is the Cosine Law because you have a Side, Angle and Side.
Fifth Step: Square root the answer you got to get the answer by itself and not squared.
OR
You step most the Fourth and Fifth step and just use the program "TRISOLV2"

B.O.B.
Statistics definitely one of the hardest units that we did so far.. Not too confident at all with it but, trying my best to do it even though I know I'm going to do bad. Doesn't hurt to keep studying right? Haven't had much time to do homework at all but, I actually have been trying during the prep time I have to keep up. I actually think I understand "Confidence Intervals" but, not too much on the others. The problem is just knowing when to use normalpdf, normalcdf, binompdf, or binomcdf is the thing. I'm doing my best to understand these functions though and it seems as though if I wanted to use normalcdf it'd calculate a continuous data and binomcdf which would calculate discrete data meaning no decimals. What "normalcdf" means is "Normal Cumulative Distribution Function" and "binomcdf" means "Binomial Cumulative Distribution Function." An example of one is the lightbulb question in the pre-test. Well I hope this is a good enough B.O.B. and wish everyone Good Luck on the test tommorow and study hard!

Sorry about putting this up a day late everyone! Well yesterday in class we went over the homework Mr.K had assigned us on tuesday. The 4th question that was done on the smartboard had 2 different ways to be solved. There was the long way to approach the question and a short way. I'll tell you how the long way went first. For the long way to solve the question we first had to find the z-score, second after finding the z-score you would use "normalcdf" which can be found on the TI-83 Plus by pressing the "2nd" function button then "VARS" to use the "DISTR" and then "1" to use "normalcdf".
This is the question: A college aptitude test is scaled so that its scores approximate a normal distribution with a mean of 500 and standard deviation of 100.
(a) Find the probability that a student selected at random will score 800 or more points.
Here's how the long way of looking at this question would look like below:

The shorter way is to just simply use normalcdf and input these numbers below:
normalcdf(800,1000, 500, 100) = 0.001349
= 0.13%
The reason why you put put these numbers in one go is because normalcdf would find the z-score while also finding the probability of a student selected at random would score 800 or more points in one go which does the exact same thing as the long way does.
The next question that goes with the last question could also be solved in two ways.
Here's the question.
(b) Find score x,such that 76 percent of the students have a score less than x.
Here's the long way of how to look at this question and solve it.
invnorm(0.76) = 0.7063
= 70.63
Mark = 500 + 70.63 = 570.63
Here's the short way of how to look at this question and solve it.
invnorm(0.76,500,100) = 570.63
X = 570.63
Don't forget to put x = 570.63 because if you don't some people wouldn't know what the number is and thus would have a mark deducted away from you.
That's all that we did for the class we did on Thursday March 27, 2008.

Today for class in 3rd period Mr.Kuropatwa gave us our assignments, quizzes and tests back. Mr.Kuropatwa then talked about the learning tree with us which led to our project of the semester. The project is to create 4 of our own problems, which you can work with a partner or 2 partners but, if you work with a partner you would have to do 5 problems and 6 problems if you have 2 partners. The project is due sometime in June or so but, for the break Mr.K wants to have the questions by the friday we come back. For this assignment given to us for the break we can copy someone else's problems. The project with the due date in June has to be created from your ideas and from scratch. The site that our project will be posted on is http://expertvoices08.blogspot.com
That's all we did for class on Friday March 28, 2008. We didn't have our 5th period class of the day because of the activity for Spirit week in the afternoon.
Also sorry for the like late scribe everyone-_- Some reason my last post I did on Saturday didn't work and well no one told me it wasn't up until I went to check the site myself. Won't be in class today though, because of an appointment I have.
The next scriber will be.. mercee
